Why are my trailer brakes surging?
When the front neck is then pushed into the back, that rod pushes into the master cylinder and then the brakes are applied. When the tow vehicle moves forward and releases the brakes, the neck extends and releases the surge brakes.

The alarm might stay quiet for 20 miles but then it will go off ten times in a minute. A chime, “trailer disconnected” and then in a couple seconds another chime and “trailer connected”. Of course nothing is actually disconnected. The brakes and all the lights are working even when it says “disconnected”.
