What would cause trailer lights to be dim?
Most often the root cause for issues with trailer lighting is a weak ground. Strange as it may sound, a loose or rusty/corroded ground can cause a vehicle’s trailer wiring harness to badly misbehave and shut down some functions.
Why do both trailer lights blink when turn signal?
On the trailer side you will want to make sure the connector is clean and that the main ground is connected to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface. You will also need to do the same for each of the trailer lights.
Do you need indicators on a trailer?
Trailer Lighting Requirements Trailers must have on the back two red sidelights, two red stop lamps, an illuminated number plate and two triangular red reflectors plus amber indicators designed to flash between 60 and 120 times per minute. If they are more than 1.3m wide, they must also have at least one red fog lamp.
Why do my lights dim at idle?
If you notice that your headlights dim or fluctuate in brightness when the engine is idling, then the primary culprit is your vehicle’s charging system, particularly the alternator. The bad news is that your alternator is not functioning properly. The problem may be as simple as a loose or slipping alternator belt.
Why are the lights on both sides of my trailer dim?
If the main trailer ground were at fault this would affect both sides of the trailer so odds are that the issue is at the light assembly. If the light uses a mounting stud for its ground remove the fixture and sand/clean the area to remove any paint, primer or grease that may be interfering with the ground connection.
What makes both trailer brake lights blink at the same time?

What to use for dimmer trailer lights and turn signals?
In this scenario, you would need to use a powered converter like the Upgraded Circuit Protected Modulite with 4 Pole Harness and Hardwire Kit, # 119179KIT. The same is true if your tow vehicle has LED taillights but the trailer does not.
What to do if your RV Lights Go Dim?
Because of the complex nature of the converter and RV wiring system, if the problem lies within these two systems, it is best to take your RV to a qualified technician for diagnosis and repair. Attempting to fix these problems without sufficient electrical knowledge could cause damage to your RV’s electrical system.
Why do my trailer lights blink at the same time?
If you find that the signals are incorrect coming out of the converter then the converter has gone bad and it will need to be replaced. If the signals are correct coming out of the converter to the 4-Way then the issue is on the trailer side wiring. You will need to check the grounds at the trailer connector and the trailer lights.
What causes the lights inside my RV to Go Dim?
A bad battery will no longer hold a charge, and a battery with dirty or corroded terminals will not perform correctly. Disconnect the battery with your RV plugged into a power source. If the lights go dim, then there is an issue with the converter.
What to do if right side trailer light is dim?
If the light uses a mounting stud for its ground remove the fixture and sand/clean the area to remove any paint, primer or grease that may be interfering with the ground connection. If the light uses a wire lead for its ground, such as # 271595, then clean the point where the ring terminal is attached.
Why are the lights on my right side dim?
My lights are LEDs so they should both be super bright. Since you trailer’s right side turn and tail lights are dim, but still operate somewhat, the most likely cause is a bad ground at the light unit itself. If the main trailer ground were at fault this would affect both sides of the trailer so odds are that the issue is at the light assembly.
