7 things you should know about Tumblr
- Tumblr is for blogs like Reddit is for forums.
- A short blog site focused on comments and forwards? While Tumblr may seem like a cross between Facebook, Reddit, and Twitter, the culture there is *very* different from anywhere else.
- There are far fewer ads on Tumblr than on other social networks, but they do exist. This comes in the form of: sponsored posts, sponsored days (mainly HPTO), premium themed sales.
- As of May 2019, there were more than 465 million blogs on Tumblr with a total of 172 billion posts (another 21 million posts are created daily).
- Tumblr is an underused social network for social media marketing. Creating a really interesting or entertaining tumblog for your brand has great potential to attract a highly engaged user base.
- There was *a lot* of content on Tumblr. However, after a string of accidents in 2018 (including an Apple suspension), Tumblr took action and corrected itself.
- Tumblr is full of niche communities and subcultures with their own jokes. If you want to connect with this audience, study it first, otherwise you'll just be ridiculed, ignored or bored.

Users create and subscribe to short blogs or tomblogs that can be viewed by anyone on the web (if published). The website allows anyone to create their own blog with their own URL. For example, the first profile created by a member is public and visible to anyone on the web. Members who want total privacy must create a second profile, which they can protect with a password. Posts on the site are often copied and posted to other sites.
