Is there a problem with the holding tank flush system?

She had a problem with the holding tank flush system on her Chaparral RV. I am at a total loss and thought since you own a similar RV you might know the answer. Hubby and I are definitely newbies.

What do you use to flush a RV holding tank?

There is no valve in this type of flush system although many RVs do have a valve. Because the spray nozzle didn’t work, I used a garden hose with a spray nozzle on the end to run down through the toilet and flushed the tank completely.

Is the flush system in My RV the same as my RV?

Below is a diagram of something similar to my flush system. Since our two RVs are the same brand and mine is only a year younger, I’m betting your flush system is the same as mine. There is no valve in this type of flush system although many RVs do have a valve.

How does a canister style flush valve work?

Tower-style flush valves have a round rubber gasket instead of a flapper to keep water in the tank, and during the flush, the entire tower/canister lifts upward to release water down through the tank opening.

Why does my waste dump valve keep leaking?

It’s a common scenario at RV dump stations across the country: You unscrew the cap to your RV waste dump pipe, and before the gate is even opened you’re splashed with smelly goo! If you’ve noticed liquid dripping from your RV waste dump pipe when the valve is closed, this usually means something is preventing the gate valve from seating properly.

How does the dump valve work on an RV?

Sewage from the black and gray water tanks are plumbed to this valve to allow you to dump the waste at an approved dumping station. Ideally, the material from your holding tank moves through the pipes and into an external tank on site without any leaks or slowdowns.

What causes the seal on a toilet canister to go bad?

The flush valve seal at the bottom of the tower/canister can and will go bad eventually, just like any other toilet flapper, due to age, hard water, tank chemicals, being allowed to dry out (no water usage), or a combination of any of these.
